D.S. David Heptinstall (of the West Yorkshire Police Force) was driving along the A650 Wrenthorpe Bypass at around 07.55am when he suffered his fatal heart attack. He managed to steer his vehicle onto a grass central reservation where he passed away in his car. Fortunately, he was not alone as another member of the public pulled aside.

He was rushed to Pinderfields Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His memorial service took place at Kettlethorpe Crematorium, Standbridge Lane, Wakefield.

Over 300 police officers, family and friends attended the service and he was given the best possible send off. Police horses guided his way into the Crematorium and he was given the Guard of Honour. The convoy of vehicles behind the hearse was lead by 5 uniformed police motorbikes and they stopped the traffic so we could pass through.

The wake was held at the St. Pierre Hotel of Newmillerdam.

Miss you,

love Everyone.

my heart is filled with sadness
with love i speak your name
my life goes on without you
but nothing is the same

i talk about you often
the things we use to do
i have such loving memories
but i wish i still had you
only a little time we had together
and that just seems so cruel

Dad is such a special word
a word that brings to mind
a big warm smile
a helping hand
devotion to your family
a word of patience too
DAD is such a special word
because it stands for YOU

A true friend

David 'Nik Nak' Heptinstall, good bobby, fabulous friend.
Not a day goes by when you are not thought of. Your name is constantly mentioned at work, with so many stories of good times. I miss your laughter, guidance and shoulder whenever I needed support.
I miss you so much.
I hope that there is a better place for us all, that you are enjoying yourself and waiting for all your family and friends.
Luke and Sophie were strong at the funeral and gave beautiful readings.
The team was back together, and the respect that others held for you could be shown in the numbers of attendees.
I wish I could trun back the clock, I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Love you, miss you.
